Varna, Bulgaria

As the third-largest city in Bulgaria, Varna is a juxtaposition of ancient and modern cultures. It’s the country’s main naval and commercial shipping port, and is proud of its prestigious cultural events. Before 2016, it last hosted a Tall Ships Race in 2014.

Varna is known as the “sea capital of Bulgaria.” It’s the country’s maritime capital, and it’s the largest city and seaside resort on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The city is reminiscent of an 11 km long amphitheatre – it follows the curves of the Bay of Varna. It’s surrounded by beautiful gardens, vineyards and groves.

Culture is central to this Baltic tourist hub – both historical and modern. You’ll find ancient Roman baths right next to bustling restaurants and cafes. You can also expect a thriving programme of live music and dance.
